In Bed With...Alli Sinclair

I think you're all familiar with the setting by now - the drawn curtains, the lit candles and saxophone in the background. So let's get cosy under the covers and snuggle up In Bed With Alli Sinclair, author of recently released Luna Tango. Welcome to the boudoir, Alli.

You're an avid reader and writer of romance stories. What’s the hardest thing about writing a romantic sexual relationship into a story?

Gah! It sounds like I’m a teenager, but sometimes I stall on writing sexual relationships into the story because I know my mum will be reading it! I eventually get over that thought and write the scenes as they are essential to the development of my characters and their relationship.

(K: Oh yeah, because nobody in our families ever have sex. EVER. Right?)

When it comes to sex scenes in your work, how far are you willing to take your readers into the bedroom (or boardroom, or elevator...) and why?

I take them as far as the characters allow. Sometimes they like the doors to close just as the good stuff starts happening and other times they want to get down and dirty in the middle of a park at midnight. I let them decide what the reader will let them see (some of my characters are extroverts!).

(K: Hey, I'm an extrovert but I've never got down and dirty in the middle of the park at midnight. Maybe I need to get out more?)

Tell us about your first kiss – where did it happen and what was it like?

Oh, boy! I was twelve and at a youth group function. I’d crushed on one of the sixteen-year-old guys for months and finally we had our moment behind the youth group hall – we had a very sloppy, messy, rushed pash and grope in the dark. I still shake my head remembering the embarrassment of it all!

(K: Wow Alli, an older man! You set your sights high from the get go, didn't you?)

Have you ever had a lover who changed you or taught you something new about yourself, a lover who made a difference in your life?

Oh yes! I had one that I moved to the other side of the world for! What he taught me was to follow my instincts and let go of my fears and live my dreams regardless of what others have to say. So I packed up my bags in Australia and moved to Argentina, a dream I’d been clinging to for years. The relationship didn’t work out but I still have fond memories of him because he had such a major impact on my life and to this day I still remember our discussions about following dreams.

(K: *Sigh* Argentinian dreams. Couldn't think of anything more romantic. - You know I have a thing for Latino men, don't you?)

Your debut novel, Luna Tango, is set in sexy Argentina, where you spent a bit of time in the past. What’s your most romantic memory of Argentina?

Now this is a tough question as there are quite a few answers I could give you! Argentina is full of gorgeous, romantic places and there are so many handsome, suave Argentine men to meet and ... sigh ... whoops, I got sidetracked. My first romantic experience in Argentina was in the Andes, five days walk from civilisation and at a camp over 4,000 metres high on a mountain. You would think that camping for three months without decent showers (I managed to find ways around this problem!) would not make for a romantic and sexy encounter but boy-oh-boy, with the inky sky twinkling with stars and the light of the full moon shining on surrounding snowcapped peaks and a very handsome Argentine wanting to give his full attention, who was I to say 'no thanks, go back to your tent'?

(K: Whoa! 10 out of 10 for 'sigh factor'. I don't know how you waited that long. I woulda hauled his sexy ass into my tent weeks before then! Now I know more about your inspiration for Luna Tango I CAN'T WAIT to read it!)

All About Alli

Alli Sinclair is Australian born but considers herself a citizen of the world. She spent her early adult years travelling the globe: scaling mountains in Nepal, Argentina, and Peru, rafting the Ganges, and riding a camel in the Sahara. She lived in Argentina and Peru and it was there her love of dance bloomed. When she wasn’t working as a tour guide, Alli could be found in the dance halls learning tango, salsa, merengue, and samba. Alli’s stories combine her passion for exotic destinations, the quirks of human nature, and the belief that everyone can dance, even if it’s to their own beat. Luna Tango is the first in The Dance Card Series with Flamenco and the Russian Ballet released in 2015/16 - published by Harlequin MIRA.
